Joyous Events LLC was established as the exclusive provider of Wedding Day Coordination services for the Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line Ships that called on the Port of Baltimore, Maryland. As a result of providing excellent service, our reach was expanded to include the Ports of Philadelphia, PA and Norfolk, VA. Since that time we have been instrumental in delivering unique wedding experiences for over 200 couples before they set sail on their cruise honeymoons.

Exceptionally well-coordinated Weddings are not all that we do! Joyous Events LLC has supported a variety of fundraisers, galas and special events for Non-Profit, Faith-Based, Political and Corporate entities in the Greater Washington, DC Metropolitan area. Marilyn E. Patterson
President/Chief Executive Officer,

A native of Alexandria, VA, Marilyn has been looked to as a “go-to person” for handling the details of planning events and activities through the years. She has a passion for coordinating events that are well organized, excellently presented, and timely.

During the 20 years that she worked at AT&T in sales, service and project management she further cultivated these skills. She also draws on over 11 years of experience in planning and organizing special events in the faith community, over 200 destination and traditional weddings, and celebrations for community organizations and associations. Prior to founding Joyous Events LLC, Marilyn was the on site Destination Wedding Coordinator at a well-known resort on St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.

Marilyn is a graduate of The George Washington University Event Management Certificate Program, The Northern Virginia Community College Entrepreneurship Career Studies Certificate Program, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Virginia State University and is a 2005 Leadership Alexandria graduate. Currently serving as the President of the Association of Wedding Professionals of Greater Washington, DC, Marilyn is also a Professional Bridal ConsultantTM certified by the Association of Bridal Consultants and a Golden Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.  

Valerie P. Connors
Chief Operations Officer,
Lead Wedding Coordinator


With a strong background in Human Resources and flair for process and procedure, Valerie manages the Cruise Ship Weddings Division of Joyous Events. She has had an active role in coordinating over 100 weddings in the Ports of Baltimore, MD, Philadelphia, PA and Norfolk, VA since 2004 and also manages the staff operations in support of these events. She is a very compassionate lady with a calming spirit.

Valerie is a graduate of the Wedding Coordination Program at Community College of Baltimore County, the American Musical & Dramatic Academy and studied Mechanical Engineering at North Carolina A&T University, Greensboro, NC. She oversees staffing, vendor relationships, Internet marketing and IT requirements.
